Two turtles on a piece of drift
wood, floating in the pond
slowly with the current shift
from one side to the other, and bond
the bright sun’s rays they soak
in, their necks they stretch out far
while a squirrel sits in an oak
tree calmly eating an acorn
silently observing from a dis-
tance as the pair so slowly drifts
from one side of the pond to the ano-
ther soaking in the sun’s warm rays
The birds in the trees chirp bright-
ly the crickets crick with all their might
and I, a simple passer-by
enjoy the beautiful blue sky
As I watch the two turtles on the drift
wood I wonder what my life would be like if I
would have been a turtle in pond by birth
instead of a human being on planet earth
in many ways we are so simi-
lar for I too float while a world around spins
my neck is also out on the line
day by day with the passage of time
I too enjoy the warm sun rays
though they’re far too hot some days
and maybe someone else is watching from nearby
as in the pond of this world I float by
But one thing is certain we’ve both been crea-
ted by the God who showed love when he gave
His only Son to die that we might be free
from sin and live for eternity.
