Beautiful sunshine, a lovely stream, blue sky
a seemingly idyllic setting, majestic and wide
—but in reality a dark hellish nightmare inside
The sun is setting
Not a cloud in the sky
One lone bird flies by
Periodic squawks
Flapping wings
Yet God loves the way it sings
One lone bird,
high in the sky
Against the winds, toward a goal it flies–
Very much a reminder of my own life at times
It seems I often fly alone
No team to spur me on
Against the winds of life I go
Toward some unknown home
Occasional squawk or song I sing
To encourage myself to persevere
In so doing hopefully bringing
Glory to my eternal King
Forward looking toward a goal
Never really alone
For He is with me all the time,
His power strengthening my soul
When my body weary has grown
I must depend on Him
Look back; remember the One I’m flying to,
And see how far I’ve flown!
One bird in the sky flies by
Strengthened by God to go on
No circumstance inhibits its song
Focused on the Lord, am I?
