Turtle Breath

Sitting in the woods
peaceful breeze blows
through the trees above
in a place I love.

Birds chirp delightfully
praising God so fully
the pond straight ahead
on a trunk I rest my head.

A tiny face appears
mosquitos buzzing in my ears
behind it a dark rump
shhhhhhhh…don’t jump!

It’s a turtle of good size
that presents itself before my eyes
resting, waiting…coming up for breath
from who knows what depth.

It seems so utterly content
relaxing, and not bent
on anything doing
nor running nor moving

Just floating in the water
as though nothing else might matter
Breathing, resting, enjoying life
and sunshine, with no strife.

Perhaps I too, should take some time
to leave the depths of busyness behind
and go upward, for some rest
that might be what’s best.

Instead of always hurrying, always doing and going
maybe I too need to spend some time just floating
…like a turtle coming up for breath.
