The Squirrel and Change

The squirrel seemed disturbed that I had come.
Perhaps he thought this was his land, and not mine
True, he has been here longer than I have, but still
I paid money for this place, bought it, and will
by God’s grace someday develop it, for His glory.

The squirrel chirped excitedly and made all sorts of noises
glared at me, jumped around, struck different poses
perhaps he believed that if he just worked hard enough
I would go away, disappear, because he was so rough
…but I wouldn’t, I won’t. I plan to stay for a while.

The squirrel worked tirelessly to get me to move
so he could get back into his own groove.
But change is not so easily persuaded.
Sometimes we must just get used to what has invaded
and perhaps there might something great that occurs
…if we welcome the change.

Like development workers & missionaries, the squirrel chattered away
seemingly not willing to give up until he actually went his own way
Like we all will do sometime…leaving memories behind
which may or may not have effectively changed a mind.

Change is here, continually. Face it. Embrace it.
